CANADIAN BARREL FUTURITIES
~ Rules & Regulations ~
a

FUTURITY and DERBY HORSES
1) Can compete in any event EXCEPT barrels prior to the futurity year.
2) Can only futurity a horse for one year - most people wait until they are 5 years old to futurity in Canada.
3) At this point, most Futurities in Canada are for horses 5 and under while the Derby is set for horses 7 and under. ** Each individual event will have specific rules in regards to the ages.
4) Coming into effect for 2020 - Futurity horses can begin competing as of Nov 15th the year prior to their futurity year.
NOTE: To be eligible for a futurity, the horse must NEVER have competed in ANY barrel race, including AQHA shows, playdays, novice horse events, rodeos, gymkhana (no points, prizes or money) etc... prior to Nov 15th of its futurity year.
5) Can time only/exhibition prior to Nov 15th deadline as long they are not competing for prizes, points or money.
6) Western fortunes, Future Fortunes, CBHI (Incentive) and SS are incentives rather than events BUT CBHI also puts on an event that ANY futurity (and derby) horse can enter. CBHI and Super Stakes eligible horses may qualify for an incentive added to the event.
7) The other futurity/derby events in Canada are open for ALL horses to enter. Events may have Western Fortunes, CBHI and other incentives that pay out in addition to their event.
